I'm looking for the best of the best PC pranks.

Have you ever pulled a PC prank on some unsuspecting person, and if so, what was it ?

The best prank I've ever pulled on someone's PC was to make their desktop the wallpaper, and then hacked the registry to remove all the icons on the desktop. I hid the taskbar and the result is the user boots up the PC, everything looks normal, but none of their icons work (since it is only a desktop wallpaper).
So basically, the person just clicks away on icons and nothing happens !

I pulled this prank on a HelpDesk technician. The guy thought he had contracted a virus and was ready to reformat his PC prior to me stopping him and letting him know that he was a subject of a prank.

It was quite funny to watch a so called PC expert baffled at what had happened to his PC.

A prof of mine was just asking us this same thing a week before break. He said his was "back in the day" (late 60s I'm guessing or at least that long ago... maybe it was longer) right when the school got their first computer. It was the size of an extra large desk and the printer was the same size, and it was back in the punch card days. Well the printer would leave these microscopic chads in a bin that stuck to everything and the only way to get them off was to lick your finger and take them off individually and he would dump them in the other professor's breifcases for a good laugh... since they were impossible to get off.

I sold a computer to an uncle of mine and set the windows marquee screen saver to read something like "You're computer has contracted a virus, DO NOT press any keys, move the mouse, or turn off your computer, doing so will cause severe damage."

Well i set it up for him and gave the 2-bit tour on how to use the thing, being careful not to let the screen saver come on. A day later I came home to hear a message on the answering machine. "Yeah, that computer you sold me got a virus it says ... " and I hear him reading the screen pausing every few words to let it scroll into view. I was laughing so hard I could hardly stand up. I called him back and explained it was just a joke and asked what he did. It turns out he pulled the plug from the wall since that was the only thing it didn't say he couldn't do. Ironically that was also the dumbest thing he could have done.

Ahhh, messing with the minds of family, isn't it fun :D

Two Pranks: Same Firm;

First: Senior Partner was travelling to Israel for business on El Al Airlines ... Knowing how tight security was I knew that they would make him turn the laptop on .... I changed the autoexec.bat file to boot into "Explicit Porn Images" .... He just stood there at security as this lovely woman in charge of security berated him for about a half hour .... For some reason he didn't find it amusing .... then again ... his wife was travelling with him...:)

Second: Junior Staff spent all day on Lotus preparing complex Spreadsheets ... When he took them into the partners office, I went over to his pc, backed the spreadsheets up to floppy, rebooted the pc into dos, did a clear screen & typed an error message that was a paragraph long inserting "Hard Disk Failure"
"Sectors Missing" "Call Key Operator" "Do you wish to Reformat C:\ ?"

The kid came back to his office ...... talk about panic & tears ..... He called the Help Desk .... They took one look & the next thing I heard was my name being paged......:D

It's alot funnier in person, especially if the person is computer literate (or at least thinks they are).

I have a very detailed step by step email on how to do it, so if anyone is interested, just send me your email address via PM and I can email it out to you.
Of course, it's use at your own risk !! :D

I have sent it out to a couple of other people and they had no problem with doing it, and then restoring the person's PC back to normal afterwards.

I made a slide show of .html pages with sound come up on boot up saying that your PC found a virus. It started a count down saying that your PC was going to be format.
Had a box asking what do you want to do etc.
But the button would not work.
I had to set it up on my sister PC before she got home. I had it all on a folder and put in some other folder that I knew she would not look in, Then added a shortcut to the startup folder to load it at bootup.
Waited for her to get home and start the PC was the fun part. Now she does not want me touching her PC.

Wish I could find a web site that did things online. I can't find it but posted it in another message board and got a hand full of people.
You click on the link and it says all these things but you can't stop it. You can't do a CAD to stop it so you have to go tru it all and click 100 times to get to the end.
Then I post another one and that worked the same way so you had to click 100 times to get to the end. Funny part was I got a couple people on both of them.

Try going to www.DigElements.com and downloading Project Screw Up. It has some great pranks you can pull on someone's computer. ((You can time the pranks, so you will have time to get everyone else in on the laugh.))
Some think this stuff is not funny, but as long as no real damage happens, it's all good fun. ;)

Well this site has a lot of good one's.
There in no install on any of them so just on zip and run them. Read the readme on each one to know how to turn them off. Some you can not turn off but it will stop after it does it's thing and tell you it was a joke.
The Fake Delete is a good one because it shows every file on your PC being deleted.

I have used all of them and they work great.

deuce_mn,

Get to school early and...
In a computer room, swap 2 computer's monitor cables. When people use the computers they will be watching each others screen.
To make it even better make it so your at the other keyboard. Thay way you can say things to the other person. Even you can hear the other person getting mad and say things then says something that goes along with what they said.

Here is more you and others here can do.

LadyLisa,

Fake Delete and some others at http://www.rjlsoftware.com/software/entertainment/default.shtml will have you on edge alright.
I forget what one but it is but it the start button one that the start button moves across the taskbar as you move your mouse. Follow Me is it.
What is cool is that it still works too. Then the others is Fake Start Menu 95. But there are a lot of great ones.

I need to find that one site that you can do those things online so I can post them.:D :D :D
