I need a video card for gaming, nothing hard core, but can play age of empires 3 at max quality. I just got it for christmas and it turns out the new 3d graphics are worse than the old 2d graphics because of my junky graphics card. Im running a dell dimension 4600 with a pent 4 at 3 GHz and i have 512 ram. This computer is from october of 04. My question is what is the best card i can get for $100 and how much higher would I need to go for a big jump in quality?

Thanks,

So do you want something good for gaming or something cheap? Because you have to make a sacrifice with one.

from what I'm looking at a 4600 at least some of them came with a ATI 9800pro agp card if you have that and are not happy, youre looking at spending at least $250 plus for anything better, a 6600gt would be marginally better for $150ish IMO not worth it.

Minimum system requirements:

- Microsoft Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP
- 128 MB of RAM
- Pentium 800 MHz or equivalent
- 64 MB 3D video card
- 1.5 GB of free hard disk space
- 32x CD-ROM drive
- DirectX 8.0 compatible sound card
- 56 kbps Internet connection for online play

Recommended system requirements:

- 512 MB of RAM
- 2.0 Ghz CPU
- 128 MB 3D video card

your game should run fine, you seem to meet all of the requiements for AOE3

if you have a agp you wont have an pcie16x, besides for a 2004 pc it would have been rare

The 4600's came with an AGP 8x slot, or the few rare ones that only had PCI slots and integrated Intel graphics.

The Radeon 9800 was one of the available cards for that systems, others included a Ti4600, several cards of the FX line, and a few other cards from ATI. But that depended on how, or if the customer re-configured the system at the time of purchase.
