I KNOW THIS IS A LONG ONE - BUT I WOULD SURE APPRECIATE IT IF ANYBODY HAS THE TIME TO READ AND REPLY!!!!! And obviously for folks who just don't like long one's - just slide on by. (HELP - HELP - HELP - ME , THE BEATLES)

Hello - I used to spend a lot of time at this forum. There was one guy that helped me a lot - but I forgot or don't see his avatar anywhere - also, the administrator would also help me from time to time.

I had moved from one suburb of Atlanta to another on 9/1/17 and the place I moved to would give you cheap ISP service for your computer & TV. I'M STILL A COMPUTER NOVICE. I'm 66 and got a desktop computer when I moved from Tucson, AZ to Marietta Ga in 2004 because In Tucson & Phoenix there were lots of Casino's that had poker rooms where you'd play live poker with other real people. This was in the 1990's - before poker became a huge thing in the USA.

Anyway - no live poker in GA anywhere. So I got a computer so I could play poker online for money. I learned computers with books & trial & error & pretty soon it was easy to play online - there were tons of sites to choose from & so on. But for Americans - playing poker on your computer for money started going downhill in 2006 for a myriad of reasons and has never stopped. Its not even worth playing anymore because your results have changed from how good a poker player u are to how much u know about computers.

OH - BY THE WAY - I HAVEN'T BEEN TO THIS SITE FOR A VERY LONG TIME NOW (I have a lot of health issues & have been in the hospital a lot over the last year). So I couldn't log in under my old info. So now I think I'm logged in here thru Google with an avatar that says EagleEyes.

OK - THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE. THE DEFAULT STUFF THEY HOOKED MY COMPUTER & TV TO WHEN I MOVED IN HERE WAS HORRIBLE. IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO UNDERSTAND WHY MY COMPUTER WAS INCREDIBLY SLOW TO DO ANYTHING & MANY THINGS DIDN'T WORK AT ALL ANYMORE.

AND I WAS GIVEN THE GIFT OF A BRAND NEW 2017 LIKE 51" FLAT SCREEN SAMSUNG SMART TV WHEN I MOVED IN HERE ON 9/1/17. AND THAT DIDN'T WORK NEAR AS GOOD AS IT SHOULD HAVE EITHER.

MY COMPUTER EXPERIENCE AND TV EXPERIENCE FROM 2004 TO 2017 HAD BEEN WHERE MY ISP WAS COMCAST/X-FINITY CABLE FOR BOTH MY COMPUTER AND TV. HERE MY COMPUTER IS WI-FI AND MY T.V. IS THE CONDO'S VERSION OF DIRECT (SATELLITE TV).

When I lived in Marietta and had Comcast sometimes I watched a PPV boxing or UFC combat sports thing. Here I can't do that because the account # for Direct TV is just the one the whole Condo place has and u don't have your own. I also found out I'm competing for internet speed with all the other condos that are using the default stuff. I also have no ON DEMAND TV HERE.

When I lived in Marietta with Comcast I had tons of on demand stuff - could watch tons of movies whenever I felt like it, & mostly free. Only if it was a hit movie that had just come out did you have to pay for it. AGAIN - MY ISP PROVIDER HERE IS THE CONDOMINIUM BUILDING. The reason I took the default stuff they had here was that it was cheaper than Comcast by quite a bit. I see why now - it' no good. Whenever its a cloudy day - the TV will stop working and say SEARCHING.

I got Netflix...streaming & the DVD program (& my DVD program was to switch 4 movies back and forth - most people just get 1) so I would have more content. I was having trouble getting Netflix streaming to work so I called their customer service line. The guy directed me to go to a page on the TV and tell him what some # was. I told him it said 1.65Gps or Gpbs & he said that was a pathetic number & my internet speed at this place was a joke.

He told me I shouldn't have signed up for their best picture definition....because I would never get it....so I canceled the good definition at Netflix streaming. After a couple years on a computer....I realized that having 2 monitors to work with was just great compared to one. So for the next like 11 years I always had 2 going. But here...one of them went out and by my trial & error.....I eventually got it to work again.

Same thing happened next time I went to use the computer....only 1 monitor was working. But this time trying to fix it deleted all my downloaded music - hundreds of hours & playlists that took me 13 years to accumulate. I also lost all my video's & basically almost everything.

I don't have a smart phone - just an old dinosaur. I have some paralysis in my hands now & the old flip-top phones I got kept breaking in half cause I couldn't tell how much pressure I was exerting. So I bought a flat phone, but it needed a different Sim card. When I took it to the phone store I was the only guy their except the guy who helped me who I think was either the owner or manager of the store.

I told him about my computer & TV problems (& I could tell this guy was a whiz with phones, computers, ISP's, etc).

He asked me for my address & I gave it to him and he put it in some device he had, & I gave him my full address, including my condo unit info. First thing he asked me was - do u live in one of those places where u have to be a certain age to live there (I do & it's 55, it's not assisted living though). He chuckled a bit when he saw what info he had pulled up along with a friend of his who had come in after we were almost done. And he finally VALIDATED & VINDICATED WHAT I HAD REALIZED MORE AND MORE AFTER I MOVED TO THE NEW PLACE.

HE SAID THE CHEAP DEFAULT ISP SERVICE U GET THERE IS NO GOOD & THAT IS WHY U HAVE NEVER ENDING PROBLEMS. I have barely touched the tip of the iceberg with all the problems. One that always annoys me is what the person who hooked up my computer did. He gave me the Windows 10 home pro operating system I think it's called. Before I had always used Windows XP. I know that Microsoft was going to stop supporting XP.....but I wouldn't have made that big of leap. My computer would also run an update to the OS that I had not control over and & the end it would always say it didn't work and it would have to put the other one back.

ANYWAY - THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE. THE ISP HERE HAS BASICALLY RUINED MY COMPUTER & TV. SO I"M GOING TO DO WHAT I SHOULD HAVE A LONG TIME AGO. AT THIS POINT I NEED ANOTHER COMPUTER. I HAVE NEVER HAD A NEW ONE - ALWAYS USED. AND I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW ONE NOW.

BUT I KNOW THEY SELL A LOT OF REFURBISHED COMPUTERS FOR A FEW HUNDRED BUCKS AT AMAZON. I SKIMMED THAT AREA ONCE SO FAR. AND THEY HAVE REFURBISHED ONE'S YOU CAN GET ALONG WITH TWO MONITORS. I HAVE ONLY USED HEADPHONES AND NOT SPEAKERS FOR LIKE 12 YEARS NOW. I USED TO LIKE TO LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE PLAYING POKER AND I LIKED IT LOUD, BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO BE INCONSIDERATE, SO I JUST USED HEADPHONES FOR ANY AUDIO.

I WAS WONDERING IF SOMEBODY COULD GO TO AMAZON & FIND A DECENT REFURBISHED COMPUTER WITH THE BASIC STUFF ALREADY ON IT - SO I'D NEED THE COMPUTER WITH 2 MONITORS OF AT LEAST 19" SIZE. I HAVE A COUPLE 4 IN 1 PRINTERS TOO.....ONE IS COLOR AND ONE IS BLACK AND WHITE. BUT NEITHER ONE HAS BEEN USED IN QUITE SOME TIME.

I'M ALSO HANDICAPPED AND WILL NEED SOMEBODY TO HOOK UP THE NEW STUFF. ONCE I HAVE THE REFURBISHED COMPUTER HERE I WILL GET IN TOUCH WITH COMCAST AND HAVE THEM HOOK THE COMPUTER AND THE TV UP (AND BOTH BACK TO CABLE - NO MORE OF THIS CRAP WI-FI & SATELLITE) I'M KEEPING THE SAMSUNG TV THAT WAS BRAND NEW WHEN I MOVED IN HERE.

I DON'T KNOW IF THE DAY I HAVE COMCAST COME OUT AND HOOK MY STUFF UP IF THE ISP GUYS FROM THE CONDO'S I LIVE IN WILL HAVE TO BE INVOLVED TOO.

A LAST QUESTION. I'M SO UPSET THAT ALL MY MUSIC AND VIDEO'S THAT IT TOOK ME 13 YEARS TO DOWNLOAD GOT DELETED WHEN I WAS TRYING TO GET MY 2ND MONITOR TO WORK WHEN IT WENT OUT AGAIN.

I HAVE ALWAYS READ THAT DELETED STUFF DOESN'T REALLY GET DELETED - JUST MOVED SOMEWHERE ELSE - AND THEN IF THE SOMEWHERE ELSE IS NEEDED - THEN SOME OF IT MIGHT GET DELETED.

DO U THINK THE GUY/GAL FROM COMCAST/X-FINITY WHO HOOKS ME UP COULD FIND ALL MY MUSIC AND VIDEO'S THAT I DOWNLOADED THAT GOT DELETED......& PUT THEM ON THE COMPUTER THEY WILL BE HOOKING UP? WOULD HE/SHE HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE? WHAT IF I PAYED THEM X-TRA?

THANKS TO ANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE READ THIS LONG OP. I WOULD LOVE ANY ADVICE, TIPS, HELP, BEING POINTED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND ALL THAT!!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear of your health issues.

I found that your previous username was EagleClaw92. Since we don't allow users to have more than one account please let me know which name you wish to keep and I'll merge the accounts together into that name (EagleEyes or EagleClaw92). The proper procedure would have been for you to use the "contact us" email link at the bottom of every page in order to regain the user of your previous account.

Also, I've edited your post for language. Please be more careful in the future as this is a family friendly site.

After reading your story..... I think it would be best to contact a local computer repair/ sales store in the area
And have them come over and help u setup a used/ refurb or new system
A decent computer tech/sales guy can setup the new computer and retrieve the old files/music from the old computer
I know this will cost a few dollars... but....
Also try to find a independent not a bestbuy

Thanks a lot for the reply. It takes me a long time to do anything cause I'm still with the ISP I described. Sorry I didn't do this right with the account. I would like to have my original account of EagleClaw92 as long as it has this thread in it. (I tried signing in with it - but for some reason I couldn't. Also - sorry about the family site error. THANKS AGAIN.

THANKS FOR THE REPLY. When u say a FEW DOLLARS.....what are u talking for the persons help setting up & getting my music and videos back (they aren't movies - just videos I would download from time to time over the years. Also - I know Microsoft quit supporting the OS XL. But could I use it anyway when I get this next computer up & running.

I never have put in all the time it would take to even basically understand the OS 10. I don't know what Edge, and Cortana and a bunch of other stuff even mean.

Oh yea - again, when u say a few dollars - do u mean $50, $100, $300....what would a ballpark number be do you think? THANKS AGAIN.

Just call a few local shops and explain your situation
If u buy a new or refurbished computer from them I’m sure they will cut you a deal on coming over and helping u sort a few things out re: moving files from the old computer

Sorry it took me so long to get around to this but I've merged the two accounts together. Everything now shows as EagleClaw92 but the password and email address are the ones you used to create the new EaglesEyes account. The only thing different is the username.
