Hope they do it soon because my parents want me to build them a new computer... otherwise I should prolly get that patch downloaded. Oh bill, oh bill... what were you thinking?... :D

Maybe I'm a little too conservative about Microsoft but my computers are still on Win 98. I didn't allow myself to get sucked into 2000 or ME and based on problems I still hear from friends about compatabilities with XP I am going to hold out a while until most of the bugs are worked out. PC World's November review of XP wasn't the most resounding show of support. They were not impressed with the product activation requirement, the intermittant prodding to create a .Net passport account, the lack of a Java vitual machine and a poor movie maker. Personally I haven't had any real stability problems with 98 and while I wouldn't mind the quicker boot up that XP offers I can wait until there is a little more experience with it out there. I'd be interested to know what everyone's personal experience in using has been. Anybody having any problems with it yet? AW

Dr. Weiner... check THIS thread for some feedback on Xp. As of now, I think there are 37 some votes on it, overwhelming for Xp. All I have heard about Xp is mostly positive ranting and other good news. The only thing I don't like about it is how they make you fork over more $$ to get the pro because home doesn't network, and the whole business about the registration, (and you have to get it reregistered if you change enough components before it can be used again) and there is one security problem that you have download a patch from--as mentioned above. (however I don't have it, so I'm no eXpert) Other than that, I like it. I will soon upgrade, but not now. Generally it is unwise to rush out and get the newest OS and Xp is no exception. Right now, win98se is really your best bet. Me just plain sucked and never got better, Xp is great but needs some time, and from what i heard 2k didn't suck but wasn't better than 98. Once you allow for thorough market testing to find bugs and such, and for time to pass for it to be perfected here and there, than it would be good to get. If you look at win98fe, any one who got that right away (before 98se came out) wasn't all that great off. 98fe was not very stable and certainly not as good as 98se... so that is why you wait. If Xp is already a miracle (according to others) than I wonder what is better than a miracle?

Yeah... there have been quite a few discussions on it in "random". If you look through the archives (or better yet... I will for you if you need mroe info) into a couple of weeks of it you will come across at least half a dozen... you'd think they'd all just post in the same thread so we could get one big discussion going on... oh well.

Thanks for the threads. Mostly positive but still some mixed reviews. Since stability has not been a problem for me, I can wait a bit until some of the compatability issues are solved. Didn't like what I read about the lack of Netbeui support.
