    Hi,
    Two questions.
    1) Can you direct me to find the latest version of bios for my
    D620-5133 emachines laptop (VISTA)
I currently have bios version 1.03

I have googled around but cannot find it :-(

    2) I purchased a replacement battery on ebay for the same laptop.
It works very well. Except after about 3 or 4 days, it will no longer charge.
It says "plugged in, not charging"
If I shutdown and remove the battery it is good for another 3 to 4 days.
The seller asked me to discharge it and that will fix it.
    Well, no help.
He now says I need the latest bios.
    Does that make sense?
I kinda thought all the battery charging was done in pure hardware.
And my old battery has no problem charging, it just does not hold a charge.
    thanks
    gordon

This is a problem when you buy computer parts on eBay. A lot of sellers will not stand behind the product they sell. If there is a bios update available it should address a problem you are having before you decide to update the bios. The only listings I find list the latest BIOS ID as 1.03. Is the battery you bought on eBay an eMachines Branded battery? Or is it one that the seller listed as an aftermarket replacement?

    dustyjay,
The replacement battery is an aftermarket.
Can you tell me where you looked up the latest BIOS?
    I looked all over.
    thanks

It is possible that you may need an emachines branded replacement for it to work correctly. It is not unheard of that even though the aftermarket batteries will fit and work for a while, they may never charge properly.

I'm afraid cheap batteries are just that.
You do need to buy from a reputable source.
I've had arguments with battery suppliers recently for the very same reason. Updating the BIOS will NOT fix a faulty battery.
I was accused of mistreating the battery, but unfortunately for the supplier, I had kept a log of my conditioning of it.

    Hi Dave,
    Thanks.
It sounds like your symptoms were typical of batteries with low ampere hour capacity.
That is clearly a battery problem.
My problem is much less clear.
My batteries hold a charge very well.
But after about 3 or 4 days they stop charging.
And I have to go through a dance to get them to start charging again.
I googled this and found many people with the same problem.
They blame it on windows, and then they describe the dance.
I will do some more googling to see if someone has my exact problem.

And I have not been able to find a factory battery replacement :-(
Emachines has been acquired by acer.
