Machine is infected with something that survives. Partially in the bios. When booting Macrium Rescue disk, a DOS box pops up quickly and goes away.

Have tried updating BIOS together with removing CMOS battery.
Have tried removing the only disk (SSD) and booting Macrium, and DOS box still there.

I also see that 'dos box' when booting Macrium, I think it's normal.

No it is not normal. I restore a lot and I know what should not happen. It is an infection trying to regain persistance.

I use Macrium a lot too, I see a 'dos box' every time I run it, on several different computers. It's on the screen for a fraction of a second then it shows the first Macrium screen. It's just a rectangular border, can't see anything inside that.

It is an infection trying to regain persistance. It knows a DVD bootup could be a image restore or a Windows reinstall.
