I'm upgrading the CPU but must also upgrade the BIOS. Am I correct in that it is necessary to upgrade the BIOS prior to upgrading the CPU?

You probably will have to update your BIOS.

I had a older Gigabyte board a couple of years ago that would not work with my newer CPU (Duron 1300), but it did after the BIOS was updated. BTW, the reason given by Gigabyte for the BIOS upgrade was to work with that CPU.

But, someone else may have a different experience.

No you do not always have to upgrade the bios before upgrading your cpu.
Try the cpu with the old settings first.
You could always upgrade the bios as well but not always necessary.

If you know right now that the new CPU is not going to work/or work properly without the BIOS update then you should do the update now.
