I am considering a bios upgrade from E support. The reason I want a BIOS upgrade is to hopefully gain control of the bios so I can overclock a bit. Does anyone know if a BIOS upgrade from E support will actually unlock the currently locked BIOS on my HP a500n ????

I don't know but I do know that an HP by design isn't designed for overclocking or upgrading. Not only is the BIOS severely lacking but the components are sub standard when it comes to this area. You would need to upgrade your cooling for the CPU and case, and case cooling is sometimes hard to do with an HP case. The RAM might also not be able to cope with running at a higher frequency even if the CPU can.

Will the eSupport BIOS reveal hidden settings is something I don't know.
