My stats..

Win XP
ECS k7S5A motherboard
AMD 1.4 ghz
Radeon 9000 Pro
PS 400w
Envision 980-e (19" flat screen)
I started getting a black screen after the windows loading screen about 5 months ago. So you understand the black screen is AFTER the windows splash screen, not before. At that time I was running Win ME and had a RAdeon 8500 64mb DDR. I can't say for sure, but I think this started very soon after I got the RAdeon 8500. I could temporarily fix it by logging into safe mode, then restarting. I was having a motherboard problem at the same time where it would reset my bios settings about once a week. So after about a month of the black screen issue I returned my motherboard for a new one(same model) and reformatted, upgrading to XP. Ok, things go well for about a month then start getting the black screen. I reformat XP again to fix it and it happens AGAIN. So I went out and bought RAdeon 9000 Pro thinking the video card was to blame. Just to note, the HD light is not on when the black screen comes up, also it does not eventually log me on, it stays a black screen forcing me to restart manually on front of comp. Radeon 9000 Pro did not fix it. I have reformatted 3 different times now and the black screen seems inevitable.
I have latest video drivers, AGP drivers, XP SP 1, DirectX 9(was doing it on dx 8 as well). Everyone tells me it's a driver issue, but I'm thinking it's the motherboard now. I have a backup GeForce 2 Mx 200. I pop it in and it works flawless everytime. Am I having a motherboard/ATI conflict?? I had found a quick fix where I could just uninstall then reinstall the video drivers and it would boot up again, but as of today that stopped working for me. Please, please, please help me!!! Thanks!!

try using a lower resolution and a lower screen refresh rate on the graphics card
It's quite possible your monitor can't handle the higher settings.

This is very likely if everything works ok with a geforce 2mx 200 which has lower top resolution than a radeon 9000

I always set reso at 1024x768, 75 hz refresh. I can't picture that bein too much for me monitor. monitor says I can go up to 85hz with 1024x768. besides I cannot even get my screen to come up with the basic drivers that XP loads up to adjust me resolution. *sobs*
