Alright, I'm getting the Black Screen Of Death on start up. (VISTA ULTIMATE)

What happens, it boots correctly up to the log in page, then once I have entered my password - it then goes to a black screen with a cursor and doesn't budge. EVEN ON SAFE MODE!!

Alt Ctrl Del works - but there isn't a Task Manager!?

    Other information:

AVG was doing a virus scan - found 20+ Viruses - Reboot - This problem..

    Any help here?
    Thanks,
    Sam

Well, I am writing on behalf of my girlfriend. She doesn't know where the disks are.... Sadly enough, else I could have run repair console.

Just to top that off - her CD/DVD drive doesn't work after dropping it by accident.

It is a laptop, I can not recall which model it is, but I believe it is an HP.

See if it will get into the Recovery Partition if it has one...by press F11 on startup.

You can hook an external CD/DVD drive to it USB so can use a disc.
