After spending about an hour on hold/speaking with a representative at HP, I decided to post here. They wanted a ridiculous amount of money for an extended warranty that I'm not willing to pay just yet.

Last night my desktop was turned on for the first time in about a week or so. I was able to login to my account but never got past that. The black screen with a white cursor popped up. I didn't have the time to really mess with it last night so I just left it up. When I woke up this morning, it had booted up just fine. Everything was In working order so I decided to clean up a little bit. After deleting a few items, I was directed to restart to complete the uninstall.

When my computer restarted, the black screen was back in full force. I'm definitely not an IT person but I have a general understanding. If anyone can help out it would be so very appreciated.

First of all, I need to know your Operating system version. If it is Windows 8 then you can make a bootable cd to fix the problem using Windows Boot Genius: http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com/windows-boot/ but there is a charge. Let me know about your OS. The black screen of death is different than the blue screen of death. Blue screen means a hardware issue. black means software.
