Black screen of death?

    my dell xps 420 was on and the power went on and now when i turn my computer on all i get is my cursor and a black screen. I can get to the BIOS though. Has anyone got this before and fixed it without replacing any hardware?

    Ill try the upgrade repair. I tried the normal repair and all the other options in the repair section on the disk but none seem to work. Ive never heard of an upgrade repair so thanks for the tutorial.

    Well I managed to recover my system kind of, but now I dont have Internet access and the drivers to my network adapter are out of date. Does anyone know how to get the drivers without internet access?

    Hi down load on another computer and either use a usb device or burn to a disc go to your makers support site for your model and get the drivers but check in device manager for error flags ie yellow ! or red Xs and get all those you need
