I turned my computer off corectley in the evening when I went to turn it on in the morning it turns on and goes to a black screen with a blinking mouse arrow. Safe mode does not work neither does disk repair.

Does anyone know what is happening or has anyone had this same problem? If so can you explain how to fix it?

    Any help will be appreciated!!!

What do you mean by "disk repair"? What do you see on the screen and how far do you get? Is Safe Mode even an option?

We ran the repair disk for Vista. It comes back nothing is wrong. At start up the screen comes on with the Microsoft bar starting at the bottom of the screen and right before you are able to log in the screen goes Blank with a blinking curser. Thanks again for the reply.

Still looking for some suggestions on how to fix my black screen at start up. I have read through the forums and not able to find an example of my problem.

I am able to get to a command prompt when I use my start up disk. The command reads.
    X:\Sources

My disk repair say's that there is nothing wrong. I am not able to start in safe mode it runs the list then stops at windows\system32\crcdisk.sys

Again an help is greatly appreciated.

See if you can run chkdsk from the command prompt.

Try "chkdsk /f", the f part tells it to fix problems.

    The message I received was.
The type of file system is NTFS.
    Cannot lock current drive.
Windows can not run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected.

Then it takes me back to the prompt X:\Sources

    No luck.
