Hi, I just installed winxp pro over win98se on my old pent II 450 pc. It seemed to be running fine, no install errors, etc. Now when I rebooted it comes up to a black screen with nothing on it but a line at the top saying Bios ver 3.5 Does this mean I have to upgrade my bios??? is it a driver issue? I can't even access safe mode, help!

Sounds like you are hanging at the Bios loading point with the new OS.

Check with the mother board manufacture to see if your Bios is up to date and compatable with Xp Pro. If not, you might want to update the Bios and see if you can at least boot into safe command prompt.

I fixed the prob by resetting the bios to default and disabling plug & play in it. Also in xp there is a setting for adjusting xp for best performance with system, good thing to do with old pc. Thanks for your input!
