    Hi there.

I have just turned my Acer Aspire 5735 on and as soon as the logo comes up the screen turn black with a flashing dash in the top left hand corner. I can not get into safe mode, and can not press any F# except for F2 and F12. I have tried everything I have found on google but nothing works.

    Please help

try tapping the DEL key and see if that takes you to BIOS

its either a software issue likely with the bootfile or a dead/dying hard drive

I tried that. Still nothing. I found my restore disc and put it in. I hit F12 selected the driver then device driver not found 'cd-ro1

Oh wow....windows 98. Been a LONG time since I used that one. :)

I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help on that old OS. I do know back then a LOT of the drivers for certain HDD's and CD-ROMs had to be "preloaded" before you could use em.

I would recommend that you request this post moved to the windows 98 forum for better results.
