I have a dell pc with windows 7. The computer loads the dell logo, the screen is black with the blinking line in the corner. I have tried all solutions that I have come across, the fixboot, replacing config files and last resort, I did a fresh install of windows. After the fresh install of windows, it worked for a few days and now it is doing it again. What is my next option?

Run diagnostics on the hard drive. The best are those obtained from the hard drive manufacturer, but any BIOS diagnostic or Windows' disk check or other one is a start.

When I put my hdd from my pc (both pcs are the same) my dad computer booted right up. If I reinstall windows on his pc like I said it works for a few days and then it dont. The hdd diagnostic came back with no errors. Could it still be the hdd?

Well, clearly something is going seriously wrong with the boot files. A hard drive defect seems like the most logical suspect. But, one would hope and expect that a diagnostic would find something to complain about.

There could be some kind of Windows system corruption or some malware that causes the problem, but that seems a bit unlikely only a few days after a fresh install.

I don't really have any decent suggestions. If it were me I might try resizing and/or moving partitions around to get the MBR and Windows installed on different parts of the drive.

My dad and I have the same type of pc. I took my Hdd(1) and put it into my dad pc and it booted up. I took his hdd(2) and put it in my pc and it did the blinking cursor. So I know its the hdd(2), but the diagnostic came back no errors. I have reinstalled windows before and it worked no problem for a few days then the blinking cursor started.

Do any of you know why it worked for a week after the clean install and then start the blinking cursor?

Lets see if the Event Viewer log will tell us anything. Put the hard drive from the faulty PC into the working PC to run this check.

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop.
Double click on the MiniToolBox icon [IMG]

You will now see the following window appear.

Click on each of the boxes as indicated in the list below, then click on the GO button.

Copy & Paste the contents of the report that appears into your next post, you can also find a copy of the report on your desktop (Result.txt).

•List last 10 Event Viewer log
    •List Installed Programs
•List Devices Check options for Only Problems
•List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
    •List Minidump Files
