I am getting this message when I start my Gateway 2000 using Win98. A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028: CO27E799 in VXD VMM(86) + 00002799. The current application will be terminated. When I Ctl, Alt, Del my computer usually starts correctly. I have not installed anything new lately. ???

Welcome to TSG pabest. If you haven't installed or uninstalled anything recently and the problem began in the last few days, a quick fix might be to restore a previous registry. You can do this by going to Start>Shutdown>Restart in MS-DOS mode. At the c:\windows> prompt enter:

    scanreg /restore

use your arrow keys to select a prior started registry from one of the first 4 displayed. The last, 5th, cannot be used.

That might fix the problem, but it always helps to give us a post of your startups to see what suggestions can be made for cleaning things up. You can do this by downloading, unzipping and running the StartupList application from the site below. Then copy/paste the results to a reply.

Thank you Rollin' Rog for the help. When I got into MS-DOS I didn't get a windows prompt----I just got a flashing - sign. When I restarted the computer there was no error message, and I have not had one today either. Go figure. If it comes back I will try your advice as I printed it, and if I need to I will be back. Thank you again. Phyllis
