I was browing the internet and a blue screen popped up saying something along the lines of a "Memory Dump". I rebooted and didn't have any problems for about a half hour, but the screen popped again.

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to %systemroot%\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder.%systemroot% is normally c:\windows. They are numbered by date. You can paste that address in address bar to get there.
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a non-system driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

Well looks like a bad hard drive.

That's a Hitachi notebook drive from the ID.

Should be easy to reseat or replace on your own.

See if the computer vendor has a guide for the model. Even if it doesn't the door to the drive should be no more than a couple of screws to remove. Have the battery out when you do so.

Windos could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \WINDOWS\system32\c_1252.nls

It's not looking good, I suspect it's going to be one thing or another.

But if you have an XP CD you can try running chkdsk /r from the recovery console.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830088

I would recommend reseating the drive though -- it may have been knocked out of line.

It's an ACER notebook. How do you reseat a drive? Should I send it back to the manufacturer? I have 8 months left on the warranty.
