My partners laptop gets the blue screen of death within 5 mins of starting up. The technical info is "A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.

    Diagnostics: Start DST Short Test
    Error Code :1000-0146 "

We are currenly running some diagnostic Symptom Tree tests - Windows Blue Screen. It's been running for over an hour and it's 70% complete.

What advice can you give to get rid of the blue screen of death?

I'm not sure what the DST "short test" is -- but Google indicates it may be a hard drive diagnostic failure.

    How's your warranty support?

What are the full results of the test ?

And post the minidumps you have for this >>

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to c:\windows\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder. *this assumes 'c' is your boot drive, if it is not, subsitute accordingly
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a 3rd party driver causing the error, if one exists for it.
