Hello- I would really like to hear/see others thoughts on my problem. My daughter's dell has shown her the blue screen of death. She took it to the geek squad at Best Buy who told her she may not be able to recover her precious photos or if she could it might cost her between $1000 to $1600 (this computer is 4 1/2 years old).

I've been looking on-line and see that there are companies you can send your hard drive to and for $400 or higher they can recover your information. Does anyone have any experience with these companies or any thoughts.

    Thank you very much!

Hi and welcome. Data recovery is very expensive....HOWEVER, that being said, I wouldn't trust ANYTHING that GeekSquad said.

When you say blue screen of death, please explain further. There are MANY blue screen messages, and some aren't as serious as they sound.

Worse case scenario, you should be able to take her hard drive and slave it to another computer and pull her "precious photos" off that way :)

Thank you. I just turned her computer on and it says"Unmountable-Boot-Volume" and then describes steps to clean off software, etc, that is beyond me, but maybe I could take it to a specialist. Any additional thoughts?

    Thanks again.
