I have a laptop with Windows XP Home Ed. It recently shut down in the middle of everything & restarted to show a blue error screen which displayed some of the following:

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

STOP: 0x000000ED (0x81AD4D58, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I've attempted to restart in the "SAFE MODE" & also to start up normally, only to have it go straight back to the screen. In my search for answers, I was told to use my original Windows XP disk to get into the Recovery Console, but even that won't work. The set-up screen does not appear & it automatically goes straight to the SAFE MODE options then once again to the blue screen.

What am I doing wrong?? Please help! I need to know if this problem is fixable. Thank you for your time.

There is most likely a piece of faulty hardware. Run some diagnostics and see.

You may need a new hard drive or memory, but don't be haste.

First run some tests.
