    Hello All;

I am running Tivo Desktop 2.8 and I have iTunes installed as well. My computer is freezing up constantly and in the EVENT VIEWER under APPLICATIONS, I am seeing BONJOUR giving me Event ID 100 and Tivo Transfer is also showing an error as well.

Is anyone else having these issues and does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem...I will post any logs if needed...just let me know...

    Thanks:
    Scott

Please click here to download and install version 2.0.2 of the HijackThis Installer.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

    Do not fix anything

You have too many Startup applications loading with Windows. This can significantly increase your Startup time and affect overall performance.

    Please run Autoruns.

    Click on Options.

Put a check mark on Hide Microsoft and Windows Entries.

Hit the F5 key to refresh your page.

Only non-Microsoft applications will be showing.

Select the Logon tab and uncheck the following items:

    WLSS

    SynTPEnh

    OA012Mon

    RTHDCPL

    Alcmtr

    IgfxTray

    HotKeysCmds

    SunJavaUpdateSched

    QuickTime Task

    Adobe Reader Speed Launcher

    TivoServer

    TivoTransfer

    TivoNotify

    TranscodingService

    uTorrent

    Google Update

Other than your antivirus, firewall and Internet connectivity service, the Startup Type on most of your non-Microsoft Services (from programs YOU have installed), can be changed from Automatic to Manual. This will reduce the amount of processes running in the background and speed up your computer.

Run Autoruns again (with a check mark on Hide Microsoft and Windows Entries).

    Select the Services tab.

Only non-Microsoft services will be showing.

    Right-click on any service.

    Click on Jump to...

You will now be at the exact registry key for that service.

In the right-hand pane, look at the DWORD Start.

The last number at the end of the entry will be either:

    (0) for Boot.

    (1) for System.

    (2) for Automatic.

    (3) for Manual.

    (4) for Disabled.

If you want to change the value, double-click on Start and change the number accordingly.

    Reboot the computer.

Tivo can be run manually when needed. You don't need it automatically loading with Windows. The more background apps running at the same time, the more chances your computer will freeze.

OK, I unchecked everything as mentioned above...however in my EVENT VIEWER, BONJOUR was showing as ERROR in the APPLICATIONS....is this going to correct that issue since we did not with the BONJOUR service...

Also some of the RELTEK is my sound for the laptop...by unchecking them to start when the computer does, will this cause my system to not have sound when it boots back up?

RTHDCPL is a Realtek HD Audio Sound Effect Manager. It's not needed to make your sound run. It's like a control panel to change special settings. Nothing you can't run manually when needed.

If you ever run into any problem whatsoever after unchecking the above entries, you can easily recheck everything.

Ok, thanks...and as far as the BONOUR error which seems to be the reason for freezing...with what we changed...was this the cause of the problem?

Did you change the Bonjour service's Startup Type from Automatic to Manual?

No, I left that on since I use iTunes all the time...and if I turn that off iTunes will not work....correct?

Not OFF (as in Disabled), but only Manual. When needed, the service should start. However, if you find your related programs not working properly, simply change it back to Automatic. No big deal really. Everything is easily reversible.
