Im booting XP Professional on my desktop computer. I have a little problem that just started recently.

When I boot and then log on using my user name and password, everything is fine except this. The desktop screen comes up with the taskbar and then hangs up for about 1 minute. My icons are visible on the screen but the system tray does not load until the minute is up. And if I locate my mouse pointer on the taskbar, I get an hour glass. I've used hijackthis and I can't see anything peculiar. I have used msconfig to disable everything in startup and it still does it.

During this minute, my hard drive blinks only occasionally. If I press ctrl+alt+del, it shows that system idle is using 99% of my processor.

I have not been on the internet with my desktop which rules out viruses or spyware.

Can somebody tell me how to troubleshoot this? Which logs do I need to review?
