I have an old computer, whose built in CD reader broke. I got an external USB CD reader. I would like to use the WinXP installation disk to totally format the harddrive, then re-install windows xp. However, to do that, i need to boot from the disk. When i go to "Boot from Devices" and choose CD, it tries to book from my original built-in CD reader, which is, agian, broken.

How do I boot from the external CD device?

    Thanks

Unless the COMS (BIOS) lefts you boot from a cd and a USB port you are out of luck from what I have been told. What ever it is that you want to boot from has to have the capability to be in the boot order in CMOS.
