My parents have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running on Vista Home Premium(32bit). I am told the laptop was hit in the right lower corner by a hand. I was asked to help get it working again.

I did a power drain, twice. I have also tried booting into safe mode and using the Last Good Config option.
Safe mode hung up on a file and proceeded to show me how pretty it's blue screen of death is. The other option just sits at the screen with the green bar going back and forth and then a black screen with a white cursor in the center.

    What else can I do?

When booting into safe mode it stops at

    Loaded: \windows\system32\drivers\BMLoad.sys

Then it goes to the blue screen saying a problem exists and says

    UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

I do not have access to the OS disc or anything other than my phone

I am currently running Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool

The technical information on my blue screen says

    *** STOP: 0x000000ED (0x86443B28, 0xC0000185, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Try holding the "0" key while booting and see if you can enter recovery.

I held 0 and it came up with the Windows Boot Manager.

The options are booting Vista and then tools at the bottom: ramdisk device options and the memory diagnostics

Ok I pulled the HDD and placed it in a USB enclosure. I plugged it into the same computer and managed to complete the startup repair. I tried to boot via USB memory but to no avail. The HDD is now back in the computer like before and the only boot option that doesn't revert to a black screen is Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

I do not have a system restore point so trying a restore is useless.
