I just bought a new Dell computer from Ebay with Windows XP home OS. When I tired to start it up, I got the Dell logo screen at the beginning with the status bar at the bottom. After that screen, it goes black and I can not go any further. I have tried to boot in safe mode and off of the OS CD and get the same black screen that will not go any further. Any suggestions on how to complete the boot?

Sounds like for any repair or even a complete reinstall you are going to need to be able to boot from a XP CD.

Can you boot to any bootable CD or even a floppy disk?

Also for a repair, hopefully you have a valid product ID.
