bootmgr is compresses windows xp

    Hi Everyone
    I accidently compressed the boot manager the problem is I dont have a recovery for it, I have a hp compac mini which does not have a cd or dvd rive only usb can anyone tell me how to get the recovery for this

    you need to buy a external usb DVD drive, and install, but DO NOT format the drive, as that way, you can retrieve all of your lost files. but if none of those files are important then just do a clean reinstall.

    I would not restore the computer. I would see if you netbook has any built in partitions to fix the OS. I believe its F11 on the post screen. Keep pressing it and see if any options come up. If you can get into a repair mode for the OS, all you need to do is type this into a command prompt window. (assuming your OS is installed to C)

    • compact /U C:\bootmgr
    • compact /U C:\ntldr
    Then Reboot.
