Yeap, have heard of it, but never did attend the national. Went to quite a few local and regional events, but never went to the Jamboree. Made it to rank of Eagle, Order of the Arrow, etc. Had a lot of fun; for example at the beautiful Philmont Scout Ranch in NM, climbed Mount Baldy, went through the Tooth of Time, came w/in 10 yards of being struck by lightning , rode a burro, met some great guys, etc.

Rockn, FWIW, your comment in the above post really is degrading to those of us that believe &/or have been active in the BSA. True, there are a few bad/disgusting jerks that have been associated w/ Scouting that need to rot in jail for their actions - but you will find the such in any large group of people... heck, guess we could also taint all of MN the same?

It just seems odd that grown men dress up in uniforms with kerchiefs and hang around young boys...too creepy.

Philmont in on my list of things to do, hopefully in a couple years I will go, and I'm planning on getting my Eagle even sooner then that (a year maybe less). I'm off to the Jamboree tomorow morning at 3:30am which kinda sucks but I've never been over to that part of the East Coast so touring should be fun.

Well, and it was fun back then! Nowadays we have computers, and internet, and movies, etc to distract us.

Back then that was prolly all they had (unless you were a rich little you-know-what)

Driving or flying? I've not been to that area either, but... you should definately enjoy the scenery, plus of course there is a lot of rich history to be found in that region. If taking a dig camera, would be great to see some of the shots when ya return. hint... hint... Be safe, and have great time!
