I recently took my Toshiba Notebook on holiday and for the first couple of days had no problem logging on to my Spanish ISP. Then one morning received the message that no dial tone could be detected with a suggestion that I checked connections etc., which I did and found nothing irregular. I checked my telephone line and found that this was working normally. I then connected an 'old' laptop which I leave in my apartment and found that this worked well (albeit very slowly). I tried my Toshiba again and received the same error message as before.

Since returning to the U.K. I have found that my notebook works perfectly well on my home wireless network.

Can anyone suggest a possible cause and solution please.

Sounds like the modem might be dead.

Go to drivers and check for errors, or drivers that aren't properly installed, if everything looks right there you will most likely need a new modem.
