hi, i have a strange problem. the cd tray on my burner was accidently pulled out. i was able to sort of fix it to where it will open and close now. immediately after this accident the cd burner was working fine. now (one day later) it wont read cds. i get "insert disc" message no matter what cd i try. on top of this now all of a sudden my pc is acting strange. locking up at shutdown, etc. i tried to uninstall the cd burner and re-install via the add/remove hardware section in the control panel but every single time i try it will lock up and ill have to shut it down. everything was working fine, not one single problem until this accident. can anyone help, please? i have a compaq 5441 amd k6-2 128ram win2k. thank you

You can’t uninstall the burner through add/remove programs. You can remove the CD writer software that way, but it has nothing to do with your burner being able to read a normal CD.

Right click My Computer>Properties>Device Manager. Double left click on the CDROM heading and highlight your burner. Select “Remove” at the bottom of the Device Manager box. OK the dire warning and reboot. It will reinstall the burner with the Windows drivers.
