    Hi there,

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'll start with system info then problem followed by HiJackThis log.

    System:
    eMachines T3418 Desktop Windows XP
    AMD Sempron Processor 3400+
    2.01GHz 1.37GB RAM (installed 1GB RAM on 04/19/2010 bought from Crucial.com)

    AntiVirus/Spy/Malware:
    CA Antivirus and spyware
    SpyBot
    Malwarebytes

    Internet/Browser:
    Road Runner High Speed
    FireFox Browser
    Juno Browser
Internet Explorer (don't use this as it always has problems.)

Okay, now to what's been going on.
In the last couple weeks both FireFox and Juno browsers have been crashing, some days not at all some days multiple times. This has happened before but not with the frequency it has been. Yesterday, had a whole system crash but computer restarted so I don't have any code info from that.

Run CA virus scan every other day and spy scan daily. Malwarebytes and Spybot weekly. None of them have found anything in longer than I can remember. I guess that should be good but spyware used to find something a couple days a week at least so it seems weird that everything is clean every scan.

Can you post a few of your latest minidump files? They are located in C:\WINDOWS\Minidump. ZIP them and attach them to your next post.

    Thanks Phantom010.

I found the minidump file through the following means.
    My Computer
    C Drive
    Windows Folder
    Minidump Folder

There are five files in the mindump folder but get a "Windows cannot open this file" message when I click to open them. Am I in the wrong place? If so please advise me how to get where I need to be.

    Thanks.

Right-click the minidump files, select Send To, then select Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Windows XP will compress (zip) the file and save the new zipped file in the same place as the original file.

I zipped the minidump folder and opened the zipped one only to get the same message when I try to open any of the files inside. I attached the minidump.zip folder, I don't know if it will do anything but....

I appreciate your help although I think I'm just mucking things up and not helping you to help me. Please be patient with me. :)

I reread your post again and you had said zip the minidump files not folder. I zipped the five files in the folder and attached them here although I don't know if that will help any cause I still can view them (maybe I'm not supposed to?) but maybe you can. Thanks.

You need the Debugging Tools for Windows program in order to open those files.

I'll read your files and post back when finished.

Okay, that would be why I couldn't read them. I thought I was sending something useless so I'm glad that's what you were asking for.

Unfortunately, the error messages are too generic to be of any significant use.

Only one file shows Sysaudio.sys, a System Audio WDM Filter driver file from Microsoft.

I did notice in your computer specs that you were running XP with only 382 MB of RAM. XP needs a minimum of 512 MB but will still be sluggish. I recommend at least 1 GB.

Thanks Phantom010 for your time so far.

I actually upgraded RAM this Monday and now have 1.37GB. Things have been running better since then but the browsers crashing hasn't gotten any better.

Any suggestions on what to do now?

    Thanks

Try running a Clean Boot procedure to isolate a culprit among your Startup applications.

I followed the Clean Boot procedure instructions from the link above and browsers are still crashing.

    Any other ideas or thoughts?

You have too many Startup applications loading with Windows. This can significantly increase your Startup time and affect overall performance.

    Please run Autoruns.

    Click on Options.

Put a check mark on Hide Microsoft and Windows Entries.

Hit the F5 key to refresh your page.

Only non-Microsoft applications will be showing.

Select the Logon tab and uncheck the following items:

RemoteControl (Not required if you don't have a remote control, or don't wish to use one)

    SoundMan

    NvCplDaemon

    nwiz

    readericon

    Smart Start UP

    CanonSolutionMenu

    CanonMyPrinter

WrtMon.exe (recheck if you're having trouble with your scanner)

    NvMediaCenter

    SSBkgdUpdate

    OpwareSE4

    TkBellExe

    QuickTime Task

    SunJavaUpdateSched

    Adobe Reader Speed Launcher

    Adobe ARM

    Power2GoExpress

    Weather

    Shockwave Updater

    Office Startup.lnk

    EDUP WLan Utility.lnk

Other than your antivirus, firewall and Internet connectivity service, the Startup Type on most of your non-Microsoft Services (from programs YOU have installed), can be changed from Automatic to Manual. This will reduce the amount of processes running in the background and speed up your computer.

Run Autoruns again (with a check mark on Hide Microsoft and Windows Entries).

    Select the Services tab.

Only non-Microsoft services will be showing.

    Right-click on any service.

    Click on Jump to...

You will now be at the exact registry key for that service.

In the right-hand pane, look at the DWORD Start.

The last number at the end of the entry will be either:

    (0) for Boot.

    (1) for System.

    (2) for Automatic.

    (3) for Manual.

    (4) for Disabled.

If you want to change the value, double-click on Start and change the number accordingly.

    Reboot the computer.
