bsod, chkdsk discussion, XP

    From a previous thread..

    Unmountable_Boot_Device BSOD startup and loop, no optical device, USB booot disk request that could run CHKDSK.

    I had the same problem and the common advise.. reload the OS. But chkdsk did fix the problem once I finally assembled a USB empowered CD/DVD reader and found a disk with WinXP on it.

    Why there is not a reasonably sized download that will allow running this utility off USB bootable or why it is simply not a part of the menu that includes start to safe mode is beyond me but I did ask Microsoft.
