What causes my BT 10GB broadband to go pass the limit by 0.06GB (£10).

I rarely download the odd utility like irfanview etc.

My daughter uses facebook a lot.

Quite a few things could be downloading in the background- although for normal email surfing , it should be fine

BUT
watching videos would use a lot -

My daughter uses facebook a lot.
what else does she do - youtube, listen to online music , watch iplayer
with those types of application its very easy to reach 10GB

how many PCs on the network - phones, TVs internet connected ?

youu can put a monitor on each PC ( I have this running on a client who has two PCs , and was going over the limit, and now can manage the usage)

the application is
http://www.pcworld.com/article/231850/bitmeter_ii.html
and it will run on windows startup and provide statistics on usage - very useful and easy to use - BUT if you put on your daughters PC - she will be able to turn it off

Do BT provide a usage breakdown on your broadband user account - I know talktalk do - so you may be ableto log into your BT account on line and see the usage each day - that may tell you if on particular days theres been a high usage - like watching videos or listening to music

The other possibility is is if you have an unsecure wireless network - a neighbour is also using your internet
