I am building a computer for the first time and I've run into a problem. Whenever I turn it on, the compaq title screen comes up and in the top left corner it shows 1mb ok, 2mb ok and so on until it gets to 119mb then the compaq title screen goes away and I get a white screen with turquoise, purple and orange blocks going diagonally across the screen. What could this be? I've never seen anything like it. btw, I've got a camaro motherboard with an amd k6-2 500 processor (socket 7), which were both pulled from a compaq presario 7400 series, along with a Creative DVD drive, some floppy drive I found laying around, a 300watt power supply, and a Maxtor 15gb hard drive. Thanks in advance.

You may have your hands full. The compaq stuff may be propriatary. Let me ask you since the problems are video what are you using for a video card or is it built-in?
It sounds like the system is perfoming a memory check, which is normal, and if it has an OS on it, it may be running something like a scandisk or something of that nature. When it first boots, press F10. That will get you into the BIOS. There should be a System Information screen that will identify the Components on the motherboard. On many Compaq's they put a system utility file on the HDD which acts as the BIOS. The video probably is sharing the main system memory.
If the motherboard is Compaq, dont try using the manufacture of the board. Use Compaq's drivers only.
Thanks for the help everyone, but I think I figured it out. I am using pc133 ram when I need pc100. btw, mrphster-I tried pressing f-10, del and various other buttons but I couldn't get int the bios.
