Hi,

I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere, even in
Outlook Express>Help>Contents and Index
lists no help for a Bulk Mail question.

I've noticed lately in two of my OE accounts that the Bulk Mail folders are always empty.

In looking for a reason, I notice that each of the two Bulk Mail folders has this symbol:

So it obviously means that Bulk Mail is disabled or prohibited from being stored.

How can I fix this.

Thank you,

:)

HI Telstar

Bulkmail is not a default folder for Outlook Express, it is from another program.
What anti-virus program are you using, does it have the anti-spam option?

Ah, ok...that's probably it.

Yes, I'm using AVG Free Version and have the Email Scanner Plug-in enabled.

And come to think of it, this all started around the time I upgraded to the new version.

I'll go take a look at what I have enabled that blocks Bulk mail.

It's not a question of whether or not I want or like Bulk mail, of course not.
It's more of a question of "what happened" that I'm not now receiving it.

Thanks EAFiedler.

:)

I have AVG and don't have a Bulk mail folder.
Did you ever have Norton installed?

If you Right click on the Bulk Mail folder in Outlook Express, do you see any options for enabling the Bulk Mail folder?

Yes, I had Norton2002 for a couple of years before deciding I didn't want to continue
my subscription (June 2004). After which I installed AVG but didn't have the Bulk Mail issue until recently.

I can right click on the Bulk Mail folder and it brings up a Properties window but I don't
see any enable/disable feature...it shows "Open" "Find" "New Folder" "Properties".

I'm also not able to simply right click and "Delete" the Bulk Mail Folder.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While I have your intention and we're talking about AVG...

Anytime I install or upgrade to a new Program now I get this popup:

And here's an example of the error details attached to the popup:

Any idea what this is all about? It doesn't seem to interfere with the completion
of the upgrade.

I've posted in the AVG Forum but haven't received a difinitive answer as yet.

:)

What directory and file is showing for the Invalid command line argument?

This error occurs when you install other programs?
Do you shutdown AVG before installing other programs?

That Invalid command line argument has always pointed to the Program Directory
for whichever Program I'm working with.

Yes, it occurs during the installation of a new Program or even an upgrade to a Program.

For example, in the pic it points to C:/Program Files/X-Cleaner
(I was installing the most recent Build (update) and during that process
the popup appeared.)

NO...I haven't been shutting down AVG for this process...for fear that something
malicious might infiltrate my system (WinXP Home btw) by not having AVG's protection enabled.

Apparently this is a rogue issue with AVG since there have not been many responses
to my question in their Forums.

In fact, I just visited my thread again...here is a response from one of the "Moderators":
AVG Mod said:
"I'm not sure how AVG got associated with install routines on your computer, that is odd to say the least."
Which is why I thought I'd post it here also, to see if you yourself had any experience with it.

No, fortunately, I haven't had that problem.
Normally, I shutdown AVG and my Firewall before installing a program.

Have you tried uninstalling AVG and then reinstalling to see if that makes a difference?

If you create a new Identity in Outlook Express, does the Bulk Mail folder appear in the new Identity as well?

Create a new Identity.
File > Identities > Add New Identity
Name the Identity
Click Yes when asked if you want to switch to the new Identity.
Recreate your E-mail account.

Ok, so you're confident with shutting down AVG and Firewall before an install?
(I'm using ZA and also have my Windows Firewall disabled)

With all due respect, I feel like that would be dropping my guard...but, that's just me.

Ok, I think I'll do as you suggest...another clean install of AVG.
I'll be on the lookout for any item I may have checked during my present installation
that would relate to these issues.

If I come across a solution, I'll post back.

Thank you.

Before I shut down my Firewall and antivirus protection, I disconnect from the Internet.
Is that what you are concerned with or is it the program itself possibly installing a virus?
If the latter, you can scan the program first with the anti-virus program before you shut it down.

It's more of the ongoing rule about executing .exe files and how they could infest a system if they carried something malicious with them. Of course, most Programs I use are of a "trusted" source and perhaps my concern is unjustified (although, no virus attacks in well over a year or so).

I just tried your "new identity" suggestion (I'm a little rusty with doing it).

I thought I did everything ok but, I don't see any new listing for my new ID in
OE Folders (or should I be looking for something else?)
I "imported" Folders and Address Book when I was prompted.
When I click File>Identities>Manage Identities the new one is in there but,
that's about it.

I can delete the new one and try again but anything you'd like to suggest?

Forgot about the Import option  , try creating a new Identity again and when asked to Import or Upgrade, Cancel out of that option.
Then see if the Bulk Mail folder appears in the new Identity.

Sorry, I don't understand what you are asking here.

Right, I guess I was expecting a new mailbox Folder to be incorporated on the left along with the already existing ones.

I just tried File>Switch Identity and I can see the "Local" Folders for the new ID.
There is NO Bulk Mail Folder listed. Perhaps that answers your question?

I can go ahead and create a new ID following your suggestions.

Here's the Inbox for the new ID:

So maybe the only Bulk Mail Folders will be the two I already had and no
new ones will be created?

And also, probably the reason my ID didn't appear within the other mail folders like I was expecting is because of the two options when creating a new ID:
1) Create a new Internet mail account
2) Use an existing Internet mail account

The radio button next two #2 was enabled.

:)
