Yesterday, my IE was hijacked after going to - a plumbing site (seriously). I didn't think dishwasher overflows was a popular area for staging trojans. Anyway, here are the symptoms:

My home page was reset to about:blank.
3 programs were loaded (HSA, search extender, and Shopping web)
And numerous favorites were populated (onlysex.ws; search the web; a folder w/ about 20 other sites, and more)
And last, IE opens with an error that says sspmydoom.cih v2.018 has been detected, someone is trying to access my computer on port 245, do I want to go to a spyware page and learn how to get rid of it.

I have downloaded the most recent Spybot 1.3, Ad-aware SE, Hackthis, and CWS. After running CWS, Spybot, and ad-aware in safemode, here is the hackthis log after rebooting (not in safemode):

One more thing. As you can see, I was running the Google toolbar with popup blocking. After the hijack, Popup city. Also, I did go to Windows and downloaded and installed all critical security updates.

    Thanks,
    Mike

You have a ton of backdoors and virus's..

    First download and run ProcRecon:http://www.webchitect.com/ProcRecon/
click the "select all" option, and click terminate. All programs should stop, your taskbar may disappear temporarily so don't be alarmed.

    run http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

    and

    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/kill_cih.html

    Run this antivirus scan:
    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Run HijackThis and remove these if still there.

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sofrccsp.exe

After which reboot and repost another Hijackthis log.

Followed the instructions, and here's what happened.

    1) kill_CIH said I was immune as CIH didn't affect XP. It didn't run.
    2) I couldn't run the housecall virus scan. I got a windows32 error: C:\win\sys32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and MS wIn apps.

    3) The following were not there to remove: C:\WINDOWS\System32\sofrccsp.exe (not there)
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\tlndbc10.exe (not there)
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank - (not there)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xFFf38W] sofrccsp.exe - (not there)

    4) And lastly, the following appeared again, after removing them twice to make sure I didn't inadvertently forget to check and fix them:

    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com (HKLM)

Here is my hackthis log after rebooting:

IE has reset itself to about:blank and a search page pop-up appeared when I searched on google.

    -Dude
Finally got through to MajorGeeks - It kept timing out yesterday. I had already downloaded buster and had run it. I'm making progress, but I came upon something troubling yesterday. I think I have 180 Search Assistant. I found 2 process running that had no explanation - nlhonce.exe, nmmemote.exe, and another that is a known threat - tibs (mine was named tibs5.exe). I found them under a folder in the registry called search assistant, win/sys32, and in prefetch. I deleted all occurances and it showed up again this morning, as well as a registry entry for system.exe, which is listed as a trojan. I also can't seem to get rid of the frame.crazywinnings reg entries.

    RootDude -
I'm not so sure anymore that I have 180 Search Assistant. Turns out after reading saw tooth distortions page I was seeing that information in the MS registry under Search Assistant.

However, I do see a folder under program files listed as SearchRelevant. I'm not sure what that is and a Goolge search didn't turn up much. All that's in the folder is an uninstall exe file. When you click on uninstall, it didn't look like it did much except give you a notice to please don't uninstall, it's not spyware, it just "helps" you find what you want - yeah.

I installed MS's Beta spyware and it seems pretty good at preventing changes and finding some things that ad-aware and spybot didn't catch.

After a reboot, here's my Hijack this log:

As you can see, the O15 - Trusted Zone Entries are back after deleting them several times. If you have any ideas about this reoccuring entry or the searchrelevant, I'd appreciate it.

    Download this tool
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right click on the file and choose install.

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [apphc32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\apphc32.exe
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com (HKLM)

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Locate this file: c:\windows\system32\iga.dll right click, select properties, version tab and tell me what's in item name and value.

    Restart in Safe Mode

Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab.
Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
Now click "Apply to all folders", Click "Apply" then "OK"

    Delete this file: C:\WINDOWS\apphc32.exe

Reboot and post another Hjt log.

Here's the results. After I fixed the apphc32 and trusted zone entries, and ran the deldomains.inf, I searched for iga.dll. It doesn't exist - at least I couldn't find it anywhere with all file types being displayed. I also, couldn't find apphc32.exe anywhere once I was in safe mode. Here is my hjt log:
