    A friend gave me a cd with a .mov file on it and asked me if I could make a cd for him with this file on it that when inserted will open the .mov file. He also wanted me to use Quick Time as the player. I made a stab at it. And when I double click the .mov file, it brings up the quicktime player (which I also have on the CD) but I have to click the play button to get it to play. Works fine then.
    I have Easy CD Creator Platinum (5) and also HP My CD & HP Record Now. I used the HP My CD. Also the latest version of Quicktime (6.0) and Windows XP. So my question is, how do I tie in the .mov and quicktime, to make the CD autoplay the movie when inserted? Is this something that is done at the time it is created, am I doing something wrong there?

    Thanks for any help.

    Jo

    Hiya

    Open a new Text file, and save it as autorun.inf

    In it, type the following:

    [autorun]
    open=mymovie.mpg
    Icon=icon.ico (if u want)
    Name=MyHomeMovie (also if u want)

    "mymovie.mpg" is the name of the file and "icon.ico" is the name of the icon. You can just create it without the last 2.

    Then, add that to the CD.

    Regards

    Thanks Eddie for your prompt reply.

    OK, I need to open a text document, like Microsoft Word, (is that a good choice?) type what u sent me and save it as autorun.inf.
    Then add it to the cd, along with what I already have on there. the .mov file and Quicktime.
    Then when I insert that cd it should start playing. Gee sounds great. Let me know if this correct, and that I am understanding it correctly.

    Thanks again,
    Jo.

    Not quite there yet.
    You need to save it in notepad as type "All Files" to force the extension of .inf.

    There is no point in including QuickTime on the CD. Almost every single computer already has a media player. It will also not play in QuickTime, it will play in the persons default program for .mov files.

    Well it didn't work. I must be doing something wrong. Did u ever feel stupid, I do now.

    This is how I created it the first time.

    [autorun]
    open=powerhearth.mov (the name of the movie)
    Icon=moviehearth.ico

    second time, I changed the icon line to icon.ico, still would not open automatically. But it was not a necessary line.

    Now am I reading the directions wrong?

    Am I supposed to put open=mymovie.mpg or the name of my .mov file

    Also when I saved it, I did all files as u said, but it asked for another thing. An encoding box, with the choices ansi - unicode - unicode big endian or UTF-8. I chose ansi, maybe this is the problem?

    thanks for your help.

    open=
    is the file you want to run automatically.
    icon=file.ico
    the file must be in the same directory, on the CD as autorun.inf

    If you typed everything directly into Notepad, it should not ask how to encode it. You did do it in notepad, right?

    Search google for Autorun.inf Maker, there are 100s of progs that will just make it for you.

    Yes I did it in notepad, and the .mov file is on the CD along with the autorun.inf.

    I don't know why when I created the autorun.inf file that when I saved it as u said, that the last thing it asked for was the choices I mentioned, under encloding ansi, etc. I am clueless. I thought this would be easy, was I wrong.

    I will try google, as I can see u all r getting tired of messing with this, and me. If I get it to work, I will let u know what it took.
    Thanks for your help anyhow. This will be a first, that I couldn't get something solved here. U people have been the best in this.
