I was involved in a rather heated discussion concerning what method to use when burning an .iso to a pendrive. I've always D/l'ed the .iso, then used one of many "programs"(Rufus-Pendrivelinux-LiLi...etc) dedicated to burning the .iso to the flashdrive. I was told, adamantly, that I must burn the .iso to a CD/DVD, then transfer the .iso to said thunbdrive. I did some research and could find nothing claiming the superiority of one method over the other. So, my question; what method do you use and why? In response, please use sound, solid arguments and "links" (if possible) to support your claim.
    Thank you
    Rick

Since most new systems do not have an optical drive, it is a moot point. Use Rufus to create the bootable usb. If you are using linux, then the dd command will create the bootable usb.

Whoever told you to make a CD/DVD first is just plain wrong.

I use unetbootin and "burn" to a USB stick. I have about a dozen different live linux sticks I created this way.
My method works based on my years of experience doing this. I own 3 netbooks that don't have optical drives so burning a CD or DVD is useless to me.
