i have lost several gigs in backups of cd's. images have random coloured lines across them or and blank with grey fuzz. really random things have happened to them.

i have another CD, where this is happened aswell as another phenomenon: when i view the files in 'thumbnail' view they appear to be knackered up a bit. but when i open/preview them, they appear to be fine. also, when i copy the file somewhere else on my drive the thumbnails view works fine. weird!!

i would like an explanation of why this happens.

    heres my specs:

    900mhz athlon
    640mb sd pc133 RAM
    80gb 7200rpm
    30gb 5400rpm
    dvd-rom
    cd-rw (LG 8520B - 52x24x52x - reasonably new - no reason to be knackered)

    is my drive bust?!?

any explanations help would be great.

    thanks....
