ok so heres the deal....bought a new dvd burner, a lite-on DH20A4P, which came with now software or anything at all, and i bought a spindle of RiData Dvd-R's. Installed the drive, no disc in the drive, it'll give me the "burn these files to disc" option included in windows. but when i have a disc in, i lose that option. the drive does work though, i know this because i can burn image files w/ powerISO and i can use roxio to burn video dvds, but i dont know why i cant just copy/paste and write the files as a data disc like i do on any other computer.
These are some of my specs:
    Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3
    Dell Dimension DIM4600
    Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66GHz
    512 MB RAM

Also, I burned a DVD with Roxio and the output quality on this dvd was pretty bad, really blocky and whatnot....can someone suggest something better to use?

Any Help For Either Problem Would Be Greatly Appreciated!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

defrag the drive before you burn the files these may be defragmented if so bad burn will result. nero burner software is excellent.

getting the nero now, thanks for the recommendation, but you dont happen to have a clue as to how i can fix the whole drag-and-drop issue, do you? its always been fine on any other computer i've used, and if i remember correctly (it's been a while so i'm not sure) i think i was able to do it w/ regular cd-r's, but for some reason it just doesnt wanna work now. thats the whole reason i bought the burner and all the dvd's is b/c i just wanted to use them for storage and not actual dvd's, thats why its such a big problem to me. Thanks for helping!

That's because Windows XP has built-in burning support for CD's, but not DVD's. They added DVD burning with Vista.

But I wouldn't even recommend the drag-and-drop method for burning CD's, it's not very reliable. Just stick with either Nero or Roxio to do all of your burning. Those two programs have been know to conflict with each other so decide which one you like better and uninstall the other.
