I'm having problems burning Cds with Nero. The process nearly always ends in failure although burning a DVD worked fine. I'm thinking Bad disks or firmware.
I've no idea how to fix firmware though

DVD and CD use different lasers inside the drive. You can have one fail and the other work just fine.

I assume this is a DVD/CD burner and not two separate drives.

Can you read CDs ok ie put in a music CD and have it play correctly?

The drive will play a music cd, a movie DVD. Burn a DVD but won't burn a music cd. I'm using TDK cds but I've ordered some Maxell which should be here in a couple of days. Maybe if the new CDS don't work an external burner is the answer.

I've just taken three discs from the bottom of the pile and burned them with no problem.
Faulty CDs, it looks like it.
I've some more coming in the post.
