Hi I'm new here.....I'm having problems trying to make an MP3 cd for my car cd player through nero. My computer came with roxio basic which doesn't allow the making of MP3 formatted cd's so I DL'd nero 5.5.9.14. I've tried burning on the fly, I've tried creating an image and burning, tried slowing down the write speed, exiting all programs prior to burning...my norton av icon is always in the task bar but autoprotect is off (It's always been like that) and it doesnt show in the windows task manager, so that's ok right? I also unchecked "enable buffer under run protection" under "choose recorder" so I could test and burn. It will test sucessfully but still won't burn. It'll just say burn process failed and that's it. I saved the log files but I dont understand the gibberish in them. I've burned cds sucessfully with roxio (maybe 1 or 2 failed) but out of like 10 tries everyone has failed with nero, I also dl'd NTI which didnt work either with a few attempts, and audio cd maker tried once and failed...I'm lost, any help is appreciated, thanks.

    my cdrw drive is HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8320B ?
    I got a P4 2.0gig with XP home

Your drive may not be supported by nero. I'm not sure.

Nero 6 is also out, so you might want to try upgrading.

For MP3 cd's, I use MusicMatch Jukebox, which does a fine job.

Get the latest firmware for your burner: http://www.lgeservice.com/CDRW.htm And update your EZCD to version 5.3.5: http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecd...l;jsessionid=0PQ11H14RNX1RLAQAMGBVQVMCACAWIV0 The basic edition is at the bottom.

I presume you have DirectCD on the computer. It is best to not install the packet writing component of other software like InCD that comes with Nero. DirectCD is the best packet writing software and it can conflict with others. You can have all the mastering software you want.

EZCD since version 4 has converted MP3 to CDA wave. If your car player is a MP3 player and you want the recording in MP3 rather than CDA form you just record the MP3s as data. EZCD basic won’t take an audio CD and convert it to MP3 if that is what you are doing, but there are plenty of free rippers that will do that: http://www.fdepot.com/mp3.asp Nero will rip only 30Mp3s anyway – you have to buy the ripper add-on to get it to rip more than 30.

Nero is certainly better software than EZCD basic, I’m just thinking you might not want to spend the money. Since Nero is ASPI dependent and EZCD5 is not, I’m thinking you might have to repair your ASPI. It appears Nero has removed the utilities including ASPI from their site. You could try Force Aspi – it works on most systems: http://www.cyrus.troy.btinternet.co.uk/downloads.htm

Another alternative is Feurio. The demo is full featured and doesn’t expire: http://www.feurio.net/English/index.shtml You have to buy an add-on for the ripping if that is what you are doing, but you don’t have to pay for the program and it is excellent audio recording software IMO.

Thanks alot for the ideas guys, I'll try a few of your suggestions and let you know if they work, somebody else told me to do the aspi fix, and to disable windows burning program? I wasnt sure, and dont wanna do anything I dont have to so I was waiting for a few opinions. I already have an aspi zip dl'd just didnt install it yet.....I also noticed roxio's website has a aspi 4.7? or something like that for dl, does it matter which aspi udgrade I dl? And yeah slipe I do have direct cd, and InCD. I'll try to see If I can just uninstall the InCD part, or would I have to uninstall nero then reinstall w/o InCD?.........btw are you saying I can make an mp3 cd in roxio basic if I choose data cd and just put all the mp3's on there? Most of the files are already in the mp3 format, the couple that arent I could rip using real player or something.......I had no idea you could do that.......it'll still work on a stand alone mp3 player? Also slipe if you want maybe I could send u one of the logs from nero, If it'll help pinpoint the problem, you seem like u have alot of knowledge, well I'll try to see what I can do on my own, and let you know, thanks.

EZCD since version 4 has been able to record MP3s directly and convert them on the fly to CDA wave files that can be played on an entertainment player. The only problem is that the basic edition that comes bundled with burners doesn’t ‘normalize” the volumes. That is burner talk for equalizing them so they all have the same volume. MP3s downloaded from different sources can sound crappy if you mix them without normalizing the volume.

The best bet for the ASPI is the winaspi32 from Nero. Unfortunately they have screwed up their site and I don’t know how to get to the utilities. Even the winsapi links on Google take you to the page to download Nero 6 since they changed their site. I don’t have it or I would just e-mail it to you. Maybe someone else has the download file on their computer.

I think the next best choice is to try the 4.6 version that Force Aspi installs. Most sites say it works fine on XP and has the fewest problems. . If you don’t want to do that I would download v4.71.2 from Adaptec: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...h+US&cat=/Product/ASPI-4.70&prodkey=ASPI-4.70 Read the “Set-up and installation” linked on the right.

I think the best audio software available is Feurio. It normalizes the volumes either manually or automatically. My demo never expired – it says on the site it isn’t restricted in any way

Have you bought Nero? It will only work for a month and then you have to purchase it. If EZCD and Feurio will do everything you want you might not want to buy it. And if you aren’t going to buy it there isn’t much reason to fix it. Nero is excellent software, but you can get a new 52X burner with the full Nero for $10-15 after rebates

You can just post the log here. Maybe I can see something that might be significant. I don’t guarantee anything. Since EZCD is working and Nero isn’t my guess is an ASPI problem since EZCD isn’t ASPI dependent since version 5 and Nero still is. I wouldn’t waste time on the log until you update the ASPI.

Definitely uninstall InCD and any other packet writing program you might have downloaded – it should be a separate uninstall in Add/remove programs. It isn’t a big deal turning off the XP writing software. Right click on the drive, Properties>Recording and uncheck “Enable CD recording on this drive”. You can always turn it back on if it doesn’t help. I like the XP writer for data. It automatically records multi-session and you can add sessions without any hassle.

I have the full version of nero, not the demo, and I hear everybody says its the best program out there for burning so I wanted to get it to work, I'd even go out and buy the version 6 if I could get it to run 100%.

I just realized I dont think I downloaded InCD with nero because I dont see it in the control panel, or in the start menu, but I notice whenever I right click a file and click "send to" it gives me the option to send the file to InCD drive (E), directCD drive (E), or just CDRW drive (E)? But they all do the same thing (send the file to drive (E) for burning through windows).

Also about disabling the windows burning program somebody else told me to do this.....start menu, type %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s, double click IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service and click disable...I checked the way you told me but I think there two different things.

As far as the aspi updates I looked around and think I found the nero one.......http://www.nu2.nu/aspi/ If I use this file it cant hurt my system in any way can it? I dont have anything backed up on here.......

Your link isn’t working for me. If it is winaspi32 it is probably the Nero version.

If you disable the burning software in services let me know whether Windows still offers to open software when you insert a blank CD – assuming it is doing that now.

If your Nero came via Kaaza or similar I would uninstall it and try the Nero demo before jumping through too many hoops.

Don’t know what to tell you about InCD. If you load Nero from the CD, InCD is a separate install which would imply a separate uninstall. If you have a “Send to” InCD choice it has to be there somewhere I would think.

Also the firmware update from that site for my burner says that its not for computers manufactured by compaq, dell, HP.......? Does that mean I cant use it? And it says you got to have the burner on the secondary IDE channel as a master, I think mine is on the primary as a slave...I dont even know.

I'll just try to uninstall everything and try the demo, if that dont work, i guess the aspi, then.......i dont know

Well tried the aspi....actually nero already had the file on my system but I replaced it anyway with the one I dl'd. The new one was a little bit bigger for some reason, but anyway it didnt work so whatever....the test burns didnt even work. Does that mean apadtec's and force aspi wont work either? I'm just gonna uninstall this piece of crap if it means anything heres one of the logs........

Update your Nero to 5.5.10.42. Since it isn’t current I take it you still aren’t using the one you downloaded from Nero. Hard to follow what you are doing.

The winaspi32 should be correct for Nero. You could try the 4.6 version loaded by Force Aspi or the latest from Adaptec, but I don’t think it is going to do any good.

You didn’t mention you had a Compaq, Dell or HP – I presume from the Nero log you have a Compaq. Your firmware version 1.05 is newer than the LG 1.04, but you might check Compaq to be sure it is the latest.

If the burner came installed by Compaq I would think they would put it in the right place. Compaq usually uses cable select rather than master slave. You sometimes do better with master/slave. But if you can burn OK with EZCD I don’t think you have a burner or installation problem.

Enable the burner’s ability to determine the max speed of the media if LG supports that. Most newer burners do.

The log is confusing. I think it says you are using Sony RW media and burning at 16X. Your burner won’t burn to any RW media at 16X. It is limited to 10x for RW. I’m guessing that isn’t correct, but if you are using RW make sure the RW media says it is “high speed” – preferably 10x or better. You shouldn’t use the old 4X media – even burning at 4X. It isn’t recommended for high speed burners. And don’t burn RW at over 10X.

NTI also has a packet writing component. Make sure all are off your computer. I would even remove DirectCD if you don’t use packet writing.

Your failure is a write error. That is usually caused by a dirty or misaligned laser reader or bad blank media.

Sorry I didnt realize I posted the old log....I have like 8 of them. I did DL the nero aspi, its called "wnaspi32.dll" and I dragged and dropped it into the ahead/nero folder. Like I said though the same file was already in there and I just clicked yes to replace it. I even have the force aspi dl'd just havent used it...wanted to do the nero aspi first. I uninstalled NTI a while ago after it didnt work for me, and all others (cakewalk, audio cdmaker). All i have now is nero and roxio. I know the others left some stuff behind in the reg, but Im afraid to touch that, I dont know if that matters. I cant seem to find the INcd.

So a write error is usually caused by a dirty or misaligned laser? I also get "cant perform end track" sometimes, I dont think the burner is bad, but who knows. The media ive tried are sony and fuji both CDR up to 48x.....havent tried cdrw..wish I did (less coasters). Anyway I hate to waste space but I dont want you thinking im jerking you around so heres a log from today after the nero aspi.......

That is another log for 5.5.9.14. I don’t think it is possible that you downloaded that recently from Nero.

Even if you update a version that fell off a truck you haven’t determined whether Nero is going to work for you until you uninstall everything and install a version from Nero.
