Since installing a new printer, I have to click on the Welcome Window icon to continue loading my settings. I unchecked the guest icon setting in the control panel etc. so it no longer shows.
I have tried "automatic logon" in tweak ui and as long as I remember to do this every time before shut down, it will bypass the Welcome Window for the next start up. If I don't then I have to click the Welcome Window icon to continue loading.
Not a major problem but just annoying.

Thanks.

Howdy,

Check here Click Start>>Run type control userpasswords2 click OK

Also check this:

Windows XP Auto Login

You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer is not part of a domain. Computers configured in a business environment generally have a domain and for those machines the option "Users must enter a username" does not appear because a password must be given to access the local area network or domain.
Click Start, click Run, and type control userpasswords2. This is a shortcut instead of having to click on Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts.
Uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" check box.
Click Apply.
Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with, and then click OK.
Click OK again and you're all done.
This feature allows other users to start your computer and use the account that you establish to automatically log on. Enabling auto logon makes your computer more convenient to use, but can pose a security risk since anyone can just turn the machine on and access your files.

In Contol Panel - Users - click 'change the way users log on and off' - uncheck use the Welcome screen and Fast user switching (being there is only one user account).

I forgot that I also tried the "userpasswords2" but I get a message that Windows can't find it. Does this mean that there could be a problem?
I'm a little cautious about making too many changes at one time so if that's not a problem then I will try the other suggestion to uncheck both items in the user accounts and see how that works. Actually the second item is already unchecked.

Thank you.

You have to type control userpasswords2. Sounds like you forgot the word control.

To DoubleHelix:

You are correct but unfortunately, the result was the same. I tried it twice to make sure I typed it correctly. Just after having the problem initially, I was searching for an answer and this was the first suggestion. I'm trying again.

We have two computers networked but I don't think that is in play. The thing is that until I had to replace the printer and load drivers etc., it worked fine. The new printer (multifunction) is also networked. Something changed after that on my computer but my wife's is fine.
