Running Win98 SE and during bootup getting an error that reads:

    c:\windows\himem.sys
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on Line 4

Line 4 of the CONFIG.SYS file reads: Device=c:\windows\himem.sys

I've read elsewhere that I can rem this line. Is that true? Or do I need to replace something? Once the error message is displayed the bootup process completes and the system runs ok, although it does generate some errors that I think are related to himem.sys (although not 100% certain).

    Thanks

with 98, you "Generally" dont really need a config.sys file

yes you can rem it out.

but as a test, rename the config.sys file to say, config.bak
and see... the PC will still boot up as normal

(I know because I've deleted my config.sys file with NO problems at all)
