Computer has recently gone in for larger Hd Drive and updated video card.
Had a few problems before but now........
    1. Start up message
Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run windows on a windows application.
The window registy or system.win fine referes to the device file, but the device file not longer exists.
    C:\windows\system\vmm32\enable.vxc

    2. Shut down
Windows program error to resart your computer
    press any key
when you do it shuts down
sometimes no message and it won't shut down at all

    3. Diablo won't run
error 22: A critical error has occurred while initializing direct draw.

I suspect this is has something to do with the video card, but just not sure what to do.
Brought it back to shop once they couldn't seem to fix it and didn't have the time!
    Any help would be appreciated

I have tried this before and it didn't work I will try again.
I also download directx, and thought I updated video drivers, but not sure.
To update drivers do I just use disk (ATI)?
Or do I do it from a web site?

you can use the original ATI cd/disk to reinstall the drivers, but you may want to look at their website and find the most recent ones

    ATI - find driver

I will check the site for updated drivers as I could not get the disk to work.
Question? If I have had a new video card install does that mean I now have two and if so do they conflict when it comes to drivers?
    Thanks for your help

as far as i know (about 3.2 km last time i checked) PCs only have 1 vid card - you said you got an upgrade (missed that in your first post) so the old one would have been removed
    - did they give it back to you?
    - a little fishy they won't fix something they did

is the new one the ATI whatever?
right click on my computer, properties
    under the device manager tab
    click on display adapters
    - that's the name of the vid card

you should have received a driver diskette or cd with the new one, but can still check the mfg's website for the latest for that model

Well I didn't think you could have two but I had to ask!
No I didn't get the old card back.
And the old one was ATI.
The new one, well I'm at work and will have someone check at home.
Also they didn't give me a disk or cd, I'm going to contact them.
    Thanks again.

The new video card is nvidia riva tnt2 model 64/model 64 pro
I went and updated drivers then downloaded directx again.
    Still won't work.
    Still get error message.
    Am lost.......
Would there be a reason that on my program list is
    ati driver files w82420en
    ati player files w8p152en

also tried fix for enable.vxd message ...didn't work...
but the good news seems to be I don't get the message at shut down that I use to.

    Well I guess 1 for 3 isn't bad
