Hi das1 and welcome to TSG.

I don't think any kind of call waiting function is built into Windows XP. Would one of the products listed here work for you:

Is it that your on dail up to the net and you want to be alerted when you have a call coming in on that same telephone line???
If so then yes it can be done, but the modem and it,s software must support it, and I am sure I am right in saying that your line service provider must support it and turn that feature on as well, if they still support it with most people dsl or cable.

Hi I am also interested in a way of doing this because I am on dial up and dsl is not available here. I know there is call wave but would like to use something that wouldn't cost me any money at this time if there is something out there.
    Thanks

Data/fax/speakerphone modem is best, data/fax/voice works. The caller ID is sent between the first and second ring, so you have to have software that allows pickup delay beyond the second ring. Read the above article...it will get you on track.

Download what I posted. It worked great for my Mom when she had dial-up.
It popped up when a call was coming in and even showed who was calling. She could then decide if she wanted to close out the computer and call them back.

It's your line supplier who turns on call waiting, the only setting I ever seen in a modem for call waiting is to disable it.
