I need a new motherboard, and while I was browsing I notcied some of the motherboard sockets I was looking at appeared to be different from the one I am currently using, but they all say socket 1151 for the cpu I use, which is i5 - 6500. I just need to know if I can still use them or not thanks.

Google the motherboard's name followed by the word 'support' (without the quotes) and you should get a link to the maker's website for that particular board where the socket type in the specifications.

There are many, many different socket 1151 boards. Some of those boards only support the older cpu ie the 6xxx and 7xxx series and others support only the newer 8xxx and 9xxx series. You want the old boards based on either the 170 or 270 chipset.

Once you decide on what board, check the support page for that motherboard to be sure it supports your processor.
