If the files don't even appear then I think the only alternative would be paying for a forensic company to retrieve them for you. That, however, can get pretty expensive.

Once a file is deleted the area the file was in becomes ‘available’ to be reused by other data files and overwrites the previous data. If you don’t see the files and It was a long time ago you deleted them then more than likely it’s already been overwritten and not recoverable.
