Please, can anyone recommend CD/DVD burning software?

Here's specifically what I am looking for and why:

    1. I have Nero 8 and really do not like it. It is too big, created dozens of registry entries, and just seems to sprawl all over the place. Since I installed it, my system has seemed markedly slower. It is a resource hog like MacAfee, Norton, AOL... you get the picture. I don't want another bully on the block.

    2. I don't really need the app to have a DVD player like Nero Showtime. I use VLC for everything and love it.

    3. I don't need a wave editor, either.

    4. Not critical, but I would like the burner to be able to verify after it burns. Nero can do this and I really like that feature, as a burn could be done "successfully" but with errors. The verify is helpful because I often give DVD's and CD's to other people. I do not want to be giving them disks that contain errors and can't be read.

    5. I tried Roxio before and it, too, was more than I needed.

So---any suggestions for a smallish, efficient CD/DVD burning app that can verify after burn?

There are many freeware sites where you could find a good program. Just a couple.....www.freeware-guide.com and
www.pricelessware.org . However, I use an earlier version of Nero.......just the cd/dvd burning part. You don't have to install all of that other stuff.

Thank you finwood - the the links helped. I didn't specify "free" in my question, but free is good.
