can chip be damaged?

    can a pentium3 coppermine flipchip be damaged by trying to use it in a ppga socket?

    yeah.
    but it depends.
    if you only half heartedly tried to make it fit, prolly not.
    but if you pulled a vesselle, and crammed it in, because you were positive that's where it went, you might be able to damage it. the chip might still be okay, but you'da messed up the connection so the mobo might be useless.
    if you pulled a double vesselle, and convinced yourself it was in place and then actually turned your machine on, then you mighta hosed any number of additional things. but if you did that, you'd know it.
